How does it work and what can be treated?

Pigmented birthmarks, port wine stains, rosacea or acquired lesions (e.g. burst capillaries) can all be effectively be treated or reduced with Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL).

The laser/IPL device emits a range of light waves which are tuned and targeted specifically at haemoglobin (the red blood cells in the blood vessels).

The light energy bypasses the top layer of skin (epidermis) and gently heats the cells in the layer below (dermis). When damaged, the cells in the dermis (fibroblasts) start to produce more collagen; this repairs the damaged skin caused by the broken capillaries and dilated blood vessels responsible for the appearance of vascular lesions.

The laser light does not affect normal skin tissue and is only absorbed by cells with colour (chromophores).

How long does it last?
This depends on how much sun exposure your skin gets after your laser treatments. If you are in the sun a lot and do not use a high factor sunscreen, thread veins will more than likely return.

Depending on your skin type and how well your body responds to the light, it may take more than one treatment to dissipate or reduce certain lesions.
Results can be maintained and prolonged by wearing sunscreen daily. We recommend several IPL sessions to achieve the best results possible.

How long is the consultation?

The consultation is 30 minutes long and costs £35. This will then be taken off your total treatment price. A consultation is necessary for a patch test and to ensure treatment can be safely carried out.
